In this project 1, students were tasked to create a short presentation and a group report on a chosen site (HIVE @NTU) and present it from their chosen PoV roles

Roles included are ;

  • Architect

  • Mechanical and Electrical Engineer

  • Civil and Structural Engineer

  • Facilities Manager

  • Project Manager

For my project 1, I took the role of an Architect. Exploring their process works, requirements and what it takes to be an Architect

Understanding an Architect

Before beginning on the Architect's PoV of our site, HIVE @NTU, I had to understand what it meant to be an Architect. Fortunately, the roles of this project were included in Topic 2 of our IBE lectures.

The Architect of a given project be it a building, structure or an art piece, resembles the creative and imaginative input of such project. It is the architect who imagines the building and designs it in their mind from

an empty space to a visible structure in their mind.

Evolving on, architects are also the one who implement the organization's, their and the peoples' vision in the form of construction drawings, 3D software renders and many more with the use of apps such as Photoshop, BIM, AutoCad and many more.

Architect of HIVE@NTU

The Architect of this project was decided by a competition which would entail building a special project for Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The winner of that competition was Thomas Heatherwick and his firm, Heatherwick Studio. Mr. T. Heatherwick is considered to be one of Britain's most prominent designers, specializing in the ingenuity of his use of engineering and materials.

Report

Moving onwards with the report, the task was simple, to compile all our research for our individual slides and prepare them in an orderly manner in a form of a report. The main difference between the slideshow presentation and the report is that the report has a much more detailed analysis on the site based on the pointers given in our Project Brief.

Team collaboration

Throughout the entire process of start to finish, my group of 5 had to constantly help one another out and keep each other updated and up-to-date as how prepped we were determined our outcome for the report. Although the slideshow presentation is an individually graded component, we made sure that everyone was on track and kept up the pace and to preserve with the workload. Overall during PROJECT 1, I've personally developed a more serious perspective on facing serious issues be it, group clashes of ideas, internal deadlines and etc. I felt that this was a good stepping stone for me to develop into a better leader and team member of a given group as I grew and learnt all within the span of 1.5 months.
